Just five more minutes… maybe later today…
The piano waits there by the wall
Quiet keys begin to call
But outside sunshine starts to shine
And suddenly it's snack time
My fingers know the exercise
But something better catches my eyes
A book, a cat, a passing cloud
Anything that’s much more loud
Maybe tomorrow I'll practice scales
Today my motivation fails
The metronome just ticks and sighs
While I invent new alibis
Maybe tomorrow I’ll play it right
But not this morning, not tonight
The piano knows, the piano sees
I'd rather chase the breeze
My teacher says, “Just play it slow”
But slow is where my boredom grows
The notes march on like tiny ants
While my brain begins to dance
A sudden thirst, a hungry mood
Important thoughts about some food
Or maybe I should clean my room
Yes… that feels urgent too
Maybe tomorrow I'll practice scales
Today my motivation fails
The metronome just ticks and sighs
While I invent new alibis
Maybe tomorrow I’ll play it right
But not this morning, not tonight
The piano waits so patiently
But I prefer being free
But sometimes late at night I try
Just softly playing lullabies
For just a moment it feels right
The music starts to shine
Then suddenly I yawn and say
“Well… that was good enough today!”
Maybe tomorrow I'll practice scales
Today my motivation fails
The metronome just ticks and sighs
While I invent new alibis
Maybe tomorrow I’ll be a star
A jazz pianist in a bar
But first I need another break
This practicing can wait
Maybe tomorrow…
Yes, definitely tomorrow.
